Recognized as one of the 'Special Hotels of the World', Shanghai Inn is a top seller and long-time favorite of WD Travel customers looking to stay in the Chinatown area.
Discreetly set amidst the hustle and bustle of the streets of Chinatown, and with a modest exterior appearance, we did not expect to be overwhelmed by the charismatic charm of the Shanghai Inn. Already unlike other hotels, the lobby is found on the fourth floor. As the escalators slowly led us up to the lobby, hints of Chinois décor emerged through the siren red lighting, colorful lanterns and black lacquer furniture. Arriving at the lobby we were in awe with the vivacious colors and bold prints which blended stylishly together. We were immediately welcomed by staff who also wore attire most fitting to the contemporary Chinese atmosphere. Khun Saraikorn Taepakdee, Resident Manager, guided us on the tour of the property.
The hotel offers Junior suites (4) and Superior rooms (51). No matter which type of room, we found them all to be richly colored and lavishly decorated with Oriental embroidered/floral printed fabrics, silk cushions and lanterns. The in-room furniture was styled with touches of traditional Chinese designs, including antique wooden Chinese beds, black lacquer cabinets, Chinese rugs and artwork adorning the colored walls. Even the doors of each room are decorated to depict the ancient times in China.
