Two of Namibia’s most famous natural landmarks are Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, which are located in the country’s vast deserts and vibrant hues.
Sossusvlei, which is part of Namib-Naukluft National Park, is home to imposing red dunes that reach up to 300 meters in the air. Climbers particularly like Dune 45 and Big Daddy because they provide spectacular views of the vast desert at sunrise and dusk. An amazing sight is produced by the way light and shadow interact with the dunes.
A short drive from Sossusvlei, Deadvlei is a bleak clay basin encircled by tall dunes. The region is well-known for its 900-year-old camelthorn trees, which loom ominously over the white clay floor. Deadvlei’s eerie beauty and harsh scenery attract photographer that travel across the world to see where the ancient trees stand frozen in time beneath Namibia’s vast blue skies.
